You absolutely need to learn limits to truly learn Calculus. I recommend this one by 3Blue1Brown on The Essence of Calculus.Īfter perusing the contents of the book online, I think it could be pretty helpful companion to a more rigorous calculus text.ĭepends what you are trying to get out of it.įor rigorously learning calculus, you want a real textbook, or possibly a very thorough and comprehensive online curriculum. There are also many excellent YouTube series on the subject that will give you intuition to complement your cold, calculating limits. If you need more intuition, work problems, talk it out with peers and teachers, and read and re-read. For example, "the derivative is the instantaneous rate of change of a function." If we're talking about an instant, how can there be any change?! Well, limits make this make sense in a rigorous way. It's how we make sense of the paradoxical adages appearing often in calculus. I need to find a copy of this now, but generally I would say one really should learn calculus with limits. ![]() The most peculiar thing about this book is that it teaches calculus without limits.
